Red State/Blue State?

Just where the heck did these color designations come from, anyhow?

I never heard of them until several years ago. Whoever it was who decided on these designations conveniently forgot some important facts.

"Red" has always been the color designation for Communist/Socialist/Leftist groups. Even in the Army, the Opposing Force (OPFOR) has always held the "red" designation (modified to 'orange' in order to not be too obvious as to whom we were referring).

I still get confused by the contemporary (since 2000) designations between liberal and conservative demographics. To me, the term red states conjures up the notion of left-leaning politics, i.e., Democrats. Blue states, on the other hand implies the "good guys" ..... you know, conservatives. The good guys have always been "blue."

Was it the mainstream media (liberal leftist in nature) that conspired to try to muddy the waters?

Read the history of political color coding in Wikipedia, and judge for yourself.
"The choice of colors in this divide is counter-intuitive [emphasis added - ed.] to many international observers, as throughout the world, especially in Europe and Canada, red is commonly the designated color for parties representing labor and/or leftist interests[2][3], which in the United States would be more closely correlated with the Democratic Party. Similarly, blue is used in these countries to depict conservative parties which in the case of the United States would be a color more suitable for the Republicans."

I bring this matter to your attention, because, in the words of General Jack D. Ripper,
"I can no longer sit back and allow communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids."

I accept your heartfelt thanks.

Marine Captain Robert Secher

I've just read the story of CPT Robert Secher, killed by a sniper in Iraq on October 8.

His emails to his family were published in Newsweek and give his personal insight into the situation in Iraq.

Although he was apparently not optimistic about the outcome of the war, he believed in what he was doing there - training Iraqi soldiers to take over the fight against the terrorists who are trying to destroy that country.

Click on the link and read his words for yourself.

Captain Robert Secher - a true American hero.

Clinton gets satisfaction for birthday

From the New York Daily News, as published in the Star-Telegram, comes word of Bill Clinton's 60th birthday bash in New York City.

The Rolling Stones provided the musical entertainment, and thus the title of the newspaper article. But he did not have [a dance] with that woman.....

Yeah.....I know what you were thinking.

We Told You So

According to the October 27 issue of The Week, Germans are beginning to realize what conservatives (American-style) the world over have always known - Socialism doesn't work (pun intended).

Removing the work incentive of the people by having government provide for their needs is the quickest route to high unemployment and high taxes. Under socialism, the dwindling number of people who are motivated to succeed are punished with ever increasing taxes, in order to pay for welfare services provided to the growing number of slackers.

The original article was published in the German daily newspaper Die Welt, and states:
Only now are we coming to realize that the "benevolent paternalism" of a generous government did more harm than good.

Hasn't the failure of Socialism as a defining political doctrine been proven enough times already?
The Germans apparently didn't learn the lessons of their first socialist experiment - Nationalsozialismus.

Well, maybe they'll get it right next time.
